Easter Rally 2016

Campwainui, Wainuiomata, Wellington

The Rally commenced on Friday March 25th and ran through till Monday the 28th. 105 people from as far north as Auckland attended. The accommodation was provided in 4 lodges while camping and motor homes stayed in an adjacent paddock. A few stayed off site.
Forty ex-Army vehicles were in attendance. Jeeps, Dodges, PJs, Unimogs, a Mighty Mite, a 350cc Matchless motorcycle and a motorcycle and side car comprised the fleet.
Three off road runs were organised.
The Friday afternoon run took us up a steep logging road near the Rimutaka Forest Park to the highest house in Wellington.
The Saturday all day run went around the south coast of the Rimutaka Range past Turakirae head as far as the Mukamuka River. On the return to camp the convoy deviated up a farm track to an airstrip for spectacular views of the Wellington City and harbour.
The Sunday run went to Belmont Regional Park in Lower Hutt. This is the site of 62 wartime concrete ammunition and explosives bunkers. The Park Ranger guided the convoy around the site giving a commentary as we enjoyed the views of the wider Wellington environs.
The rally dinner was held at the Wainuiomata Golf Club. The traditional Club trophies and prizes, the latter made up from sponsored gifts, were awarded. Monday saw guests depart, some after partaking of hot cross buns and coffee.
The weather was kind, and the camaraderie of the event was enjoyed by all.
